Review from "Model Boats" Magazine about plans of ,,HMS Juno
from Shipyard publishing. Marcle Models of Amersham are marketing
plans of period ships aimed specifically at the scratch-builder. This
is an area that I feel is somewhat neglected in the UK, surprisingly so in
view of our long maritime history. The first in the series is a
fourteen-sheet plan set (see sample sheet above) for HMS Juno 1780, a 32
gun frigate of the Amazon class. All drawings are on A2 size sheets and
drawn basically to a scale of 1:96. The details provided are as complete
and comprehensive as any I have seen and include all lines, constructional
details, deck fittings, rigging and sails. Full description of all the
ornamentation, ships boats and ground tackle is also shown. The
drawings have been created by Wydawnictwo SHIPYARD in Poland, who have
obviously done their historical homework and used recognised sources on
which to base their research. The drawings are superbly drafted and will
be invaluable to the model maker who wishes to construct a highly detailed
model of the vesel. It should be noted that the drawings are of the
original vessel and have not been adapted, translated or otherwise
prepared for the model maker in any way. The small amount of text is in
Polish but this is really a minor issue since the standard of the drawings
keeps the written word to a minimum and the meaning of what text thereis,
is readily apparent. It is anticipated that further vessels to be featured
in the series will include HMS Boston, Agamemnon, the French frigate
Bellone, and a Spanisch Frigate, Santa Leocadia 1777. Review by
Keith Julier.
